ParticipantWould that it were that simple. Sadly it was the laws of Physics that made them star crossed lovers. One of the lesser known theories in Quantum Physics is that when two inanimate objects of eqaully huge a-matter or “Awesomeness-Matter” cannot occupy the same aproximate space without creating dangerous “Anti-awesomeness-matter” which is known to cause severe creativity vacuums and the abandonment of fun-saving projects. Worry not, I do have plans for the badge when it gets back from it’s temporary tour of the omnidimentional multiverse.

Participantowo I…I have applied for membership to your most prestigious group. While I wish I had a better photo of any of my wonderful hats, I’m afraid the only headgear I happen to have an excellent photo of is…this.
I did not make the hat, nor did I photograph it–honors for those two things go to http://tinytophats.deviantart.com/. I DO own it however, and OH MY GULAY I LOVE IT SO. It actually bobs and moves with my head, and the first time I wore it, people were stopping me to take photos–and even video–of it. :’3 It and I were meant to be together.

ParticipantSalutes, salutations, and simple hellos. While i have a few hats, I am not a collector. While I’ve adorned my caps I am not a decorator. What i am, at least as far as is relevant in this thread, is a millinery manipulator. I favor the fedora for style even thought the balance and brim stiffness is better with a bowler. I like the point of a fedora. I think it makes me look just sinister enough.

ParticipantSo, I believe the idea of membership approval of this group is by posting a pic of oneself in a favourite hat. Well, dear H.A.T.S. members, this is my favourite hat. It is a steampunk bummer/forage kepi out of red and black leather that I made hand sewn for Steamcon III.
Here’s a few more shots of the hat.

GuestConstable, after looking at that hat again, I may want one eventually in black and yellow. Could I possibly inquire about a commission? In the meantime, enjoy Hat 2.0. http://voltor07.deviantart.com/art/Hat-2-0-Front-473198365

As to commissioning one, I would need two things:
1) Hat size in inches
2) Shade of yellow desired (I will do my best to match it)
Once I get these, I can price the leather needed and give you a quote and we can go from there.

ParticipantHi, I’m new to this division, just making the rounds, I’ll get some pics of my hats to put up. And on the topic, has anyone herd of Optimo Hats, they are a local Chicago hattery, they hand make their hats, the owner apprenticed to an old hatter. Great history and talent there. By the way, how does one insert a picture on this forum?

Here is the link if your interested.

ParticipantI too still need to set up a photo shoot of my hats. I have quite the collection.

Geoff Nicholson
ParticipantHats are quite a thing.
Optimo as a brand, I have never heard of (my shop is Paul’s in San Francisco), but Optimo as a style, now that’s a different matter.
-
Specialist Kit Allison
ParticipantOptimo is a hat shop in Chicago, its pretty neat, the makes all the hats he sells by hand. He apprenticed with the the previous owner of the shop, who had been making hats since I think the 40’s or something, and that guy apprenticed with somebody making hats before that. Long story short, they are extremily expensive but also extremely high quality. I dream of the day I can afford one.

Kudos for including it.Thanks, 1 is by the look of it a leather stingy brim porkpie, 3 is a Boater hat, and the 5th is a rice picker hat, I am unsure of what its actually called. Picked it up in Japan as a souvenir.

That will depend on what the hat is made of, I dont want to damage it putting a safety pin through it.
-
Captain Dermut
ParticipantIf it’s a genuine one it is probably a felt one. Felt doesn’t always react well to pins, as some of my hats can attest too. Best thing to do in that case, and that is just my humble opinion, is get a iron-on patch and carefully apply that over the original insignia.

ParticipantDang that is a lot of cool hats.
-
Geoff Nicholson
ParticipantI like my garrison cap, it lives with my OSD uniform, because it’s got a winged-airship on it.
I’m still on the hunt for a good pith-helmet, as I’ve got an idea for a scout uniform which will go well with it.
As for the kepi, if you’re lucky the insignia will not be sewn on or pinned, but there will be a grommet and a screw-post. With some creative desoldering and resoldering you can probably make a screw-back TSU pin!
-
Specialist Kit Allison
ParticipantGot the kepi a couple weeks ago, The detail on it is quite nice. Though it means I cant put any TSU logos or pins on it without damaging it. But I like the insignia, it actually has sequins on it, so its a little shiny. I like shiny. I’ll post pictures when I get home. And check ebay for pith-helmet.

I know little to nothing about afordable hats. Of these i only bought one for full price, 50 euro (the one with the tartan ribbon). I also bought the hat with the snakeskin but got a huge discount from our local hatter. (Paid 15 euros for that) the bottom hat with the black goggles and the bowler with the brass goggles i got for free from said hatter. That other hat i inherited from my great grandfather.

That would entirely depend on the material it’s made from. It may be difficult recolouring the dark green to a bright yellow though.
-
Howard Mob
Participantits canvas material, I’ll have to get a picture of it.
I had the idea of making a sort of case over the hat, but the bill makes it a problem, perhaps I recolor the bill and leave the rest green, with a case over it.

ParticipantIt might take to dying; they also make a “fabric” spray paint which is used for covering stains in upholstery … by colouring the whole piece another colour… that might work well.
We used it to change some light brown car seats to dark brown. I don’t remember what other hues were available.
