The Mammoth: RPG Edition

Okay guys, it’s time to get real.

The Gaming Mammoth is coming soon (details post coming this week) and there is something that needs to be discussed from my side.

This year, we are going to be running a tabletop RPG game as part of the event and when I say “we” I do in fact mean we.

Are you a tabletop gamer? Want to take part in a single campaign and raise money for a good cause? Great, read on!

We are going to need someone with DM’ing experience, if no one else has any experience or is willing to run a game then I will take point on that but my experience is limited so if we have someone who doesn’t mind working with me on this it would just be so much easier.

The aim will be to start a game on the Friday of the Mammoth (March 31st) at about 10pm Uk time, run a single shot campaign until it’s over and then never speak of it again.

So right now I am looking for people with experience DM’ing tabletop games, people who want to play a game for a good cause.

Experience using Roll20 is a benefit but not needed, but you need to be free March 31st, from at least half an hour before the game is scheduled to start (should be about 5pm East-coast American time).

Most important of all, this is going to be livestreamed on twitch as part of the Gaming Mammoth, so if you can’t handle either your face or voice being on display, don’t volunteer.

It has been suggested to me, by a relatively reliable D&D channel on Twitch that we include some kind of… in-game hi-jinks for donations as apparently it encourages donations so you need to consider this as well.

So, who is interested, if you need to confirm the date closer to the day by all means just let me know, but let me know if you’re a firm or soft confirmation and what you’re up for (playing or DM’ing).

    Good gaming guys!

  • What program will you be using to run the game?

The game will run through Roll20.

And a general update, we have had a volunteer for running the game, someone with experience.

As such the game will be Deadlands Reloaded, I will prod our new DM to give the run down so people can confirm interest.

Just remember that this is all going to be for a good cause.

Deadlands….. Hmmmm, never did a Pinnacle game before…. I’m game.

As far as experience…. is 20 years enough?

Played: AD&D, D&D 3rd/3.5, White Wolf and Fiasco to name a few. No Pinnacle yet though….

  • Idk what pinnacle is so I guess I will watch and donate some cash instead of playing.

Pinnacle is both the production company that produced and published the game and is the name given to the game system and rules set they use.

Some of these systems are used by certain companies (like the various forms of D&D used by TSR), some are in the public domain and used by multiple smaller companies and fan-writers (like the FATE, Gumshoe and d6 systems). Some companies just sell rule sets and actively encourage their fan base to write and publish their own (like the Fiasco system).

As far as I know, there never really was a distinct “Pinnacle System”. They did make a whole load of different games with similar but slightly different systems (including Deadlands Classic), before they finally pulled together Savage Worlds, the system that they now use for the majority of their games, Deadlands:Reloaded included. I could go back to playing deadlands classic, but it suffered badly in some areas due to the open ended die rolling the level of randomness that could hit once Mad Scientists, Hucksters etc. got involved.

So yeah. Savage Worlds. It’s actually a damn sight easier to run and play than Deadlands Classic….

My mistake, I thought they all used similar mechanics. As I said, never played it before, but I’m always up for something new.

Two quick questions. When will we hear a little more about this, on who will be selected and so forth? Second: when you have your face onstream, are there things we can’t do or say? Age restrictions and other codes we should know about?

Hey Dermut, sorry for the delay in information, more will be coming I promise you, I’ll make sure any relevant information is available at least two weeks before the event.

I will contact players individually to let them know they are welcome to join (but if anyone is interested, by all means they can mention it or PM me here) and I will see about getting an RPG channel in the Discord for discussion.

As for the stream itself, there’s no real rules as long as people keep to a decent PG-13 age limit, sex is the biggest no-no on a Twitch stream so as long as no one plans to get frisky, we’re okay.

Otherwise we just have to remember we are representing the TSU and our Charity, so keeping things light and friendly is a real must.

Knock ’em dead, folks. By which I mean, have fun! I won’t be able to join you, or view the stream, but this sounds soooo coool!
