ISO Files and You

    • Definition- An ISO file is an “image” file of the data on a CD or DVD.

Think of an ISO file as a puzzle in a box. The box is no good, but the pieces inside form an image when put together.

An ISO file is the same way. The file itself is no good unless it can be opened, assembled, and used. The most common way to make use of an ISO file is to burn the ISO file to a CD, DVD, or BD disc. It’s a different process than burning a bunch of music or document files to a disc because your CD/DVD/BD burning software must “assemble” the contents of the ISO file onto the disc.

ISO image files are often used to distribute large programs over the Internet due to the fact that all of the program’s files can be neatly contained as a single file – the ISO file. For example, when downloading Linux or a Windows Live CD, the file downloaded is an ISO, or image of the Operating System. It will not boot, and no program can read it. But by using ISO Burning software (Freeware links below), you can reproduce a bootable system disc, or view its contents.

*If you don’t want to actually burn an ISO file to a disc, most compression/decompression software programs, like 7-Zip or WinZip, can extract the contents of an ISO file to a folder.

      …But that’s another Topic. ;)

The ISO we want to work with is the Propaganda DVD.

Download the Newer Propaganda DVD from above or here: http://www.toysoldiersunite.com/files/PropogandaDVD.iso
*Contains PSAs and Doctor Steel Show
The file size is 3.9GB, so it may take some time to download.
      ;)

Properly burning an ISO image file to a disc is a bit different than just burning the ISO file as you would any other file. You’ll need to choose the “burn image” or “write image” option in your burning software and then choose the file.

      Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Usually takes less than 15 minutes

      Here’s How:

Download Free ISO Burning software completely free here: http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm

NOTE- Win 7 users do NOT need to download anything. Windows will now burn ISO files natively.

Important: The software is completely free and fully functional. HOWEVER, their download pages can be a little tricky. Don’t let their advertisements fool you into downloading something else. ;)

The steps to burn an ISO Image are included on the page, w/DL links. Each program is a little different, but any of them will produce your Propaganda DVD in no time. *Meaning that this tutorial is nearing its end… ;)

      Basically, do THIS

      1) Place blank CD/DVD in your drive. (Make sure your drive has burning capabilities- some don’t.)
      2) Open the program you have downloaded.
      3) Inside the program, choose the Propaganda DVD ISO image.
      4) Start burning your new disc. (Power ISO will verify data if paid; is the one I use)
      5) Eject your disc, throw it into a DVD player, and AMAZE your friends. ;)

NOTE- Inside the program, you should be able to set the number of DVDs you would like to burn. There is really no need to burn them one at a time. ;)
