On February 22nd, Lt. Quilkinous Thoughtbubble and Captain Nurse Risa took Dr. Steel’s philosophy of a world makeover to one of the types of places that could use it most; a homeless shelter.
Through Disney’s Give-A-Day-Get-A-Day program, these two Army veterans volunteered at the Tallahassee-Leon Shelter on behalf of Dr. Steel, The Red Tide, and spec ops O.R.B.. Soldiers helped to both prepare as well as serve food to those seeking help at the shelter.
No photos were taken and no physical pieces of propaganda were handed during their work, in respect for both workers and the people using its services. However, Soldiers were able to pass out smiles and pleasantries in plenty, and had the opportunity to chat with the staff and those they served, lending ears and shoulders where and when they were needed.
The Soldiers were well received for both their attitude and diligence, and are planning to do more work for the shelter in the future. Discussion with the volunteering head of the shelter opened the possibility of creating Steelified food, such as cookies and cupcakes, as part of the menu during future volunteering opportunities.
