FAQ

1) Who can be a Toy Soldier, Nurse or Scout?

In short: anyone! Toy Soldiers Unite does not discriminate based on age, race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, hair color, eye color, or ice cream flavor preference. Anyone can be a Toy Soldier, Nurse or Scout!

2)What am I required to do as a Toy Soldier?

One of the best things about being a Toy Soldier is that there are no participation requirements. Everything you do as a member of TSU is voluntary and based in one’s own interests. There are no tests, no mandatory reports, no obligation to participate in anything you are uncomfortable with. Our organization encourages creativity and unity via an alternative view of the future in which we all live for fun and play. This vision is designed to build a Utopian Playland, so the duties of a Toy Soldier are truly based on one, single mission: to have fun!

However, while Toy Soldiers may be as active or inactive as they wish, note that here at TSU, you get what you put into it. When you are active in the community that is Toy Soldiers Unite, opportunities open up for everything from terrific trips to phenomenal philanthropies. You have the opportunity to make lifelong friends, and, in some instances, lifelong loves. (We’re not by any means a dating site, but a few soldiers have gotten married!) But friends will not flock to you just for being a Toy Soldier. Take a leap, put yourself out there, and you will likely find that the being a Toy Soldier means so much more than a registration on a website.

3) Who can be a Scout or a Nurse?
As per the Toy Soldiers Unite tradition, all are welcome! In Toy Soldiers Unite, we never discriminate, so you are free to join any regiment you please. However, we are currently lacking in templates for male nurse and scout uniforms, so we encourage the gentlemen to become creative with those. Unless of course you want to wear the dress. That’s fine too!

4) Where is Dr. Steel?
The Doc hasn’t been heard from since October 2010, at which point he spoke of the new album he was intensely working to produce. As he continued to toil in his exciting endeavor, he had less and less time to communicate with Toy Soldiers, what with the Alien Illuminati watchful eyes minding his masterful moves. Eventually, the dear Doctor was forced to lock himself away in an unspecified bunker somewhere in the bowls of the Earth as he proceeds to toil with his toys and meddle with his music. Though Dr. Steel may be gone for now, his abstract ideals live on in the heart of every soldier as he or she maintains his/her mission to perpetuate playtime worldwide. Having always encouraged us to grow ourselves creatively and intellectually in pursuit of the singularity, we carry onward to the Utopian Playland, never losing sight of Dr.Steel’s vision!

5) Is this a cult?
Skewed religious obsession, strange rituals and poison Kool-Aid. These are things generally associated with the stigma of the word “cult”. However vague the true definition of a cult might be, there is one singular element which rings true throughout all organizations considered to be cults; that is religion.

The Army of The Toy Soldiers accepts all of mankind (as well as various species of primates should the uniforms look funny on them) and holds no discrimination due to age, race or gender. Likewise, all forms of religious interests are welcomed to be held by members of The Toy Soldiers. Doctor Steel is not our “God” or our “Ruler.” He is simply the man who set forth the ideals we believe in and put the wheels in motion for TSU to be created. After all, we did begin as a fan club for his music and ideas. People can come and go as they please. We’ll never stop anyone from joining or leaving, and people can be as active or as inactive as they choose. We’re an organization of good, clean fun that just happens to be very convicted in our Army parody motif.

Army: n. A body of persons organized to advance a cause. (Definition courtesy of Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

And our “cause?” To have fun!

7) What should I do if I signed up with the wrong e-mail address?
You may change your e-mail address as many times as you wish on your personal profile once you log-in into the members’ area.

If you signed up with an e-mail address you do not have access to, use the contact page to get in touch with us, and we will help retrieve your account details so that you may log in and adjust your details with the correct e-mail address.

8.) How do I create my own division?

First and foremost, we thank you for taking the initiative to form a division. Toy Soldiers from around the globe have been forming such units as to build local groups to carry out missions, stage invasions and have a generally good time!

First, you should check the groups page and make sure that one does not already exist within a 100 mile radius of where you want your division to be. Check carefully because some divisions are listed more by regions than by cities. If there is not already a division covering your area, then you can send your request via the contact page with the following information:

A) A Leader. This person must live in the city the division is created for. You must also be a member in good standing with us, having an active profile and posts.
B) Links to 3 other members’ profiles to start it with. They must also be proven active.
C) All parties must be registered members of Toy Soldiers Unite for at least one month prior to division creation.
D) Your exact location.
E) The title of your Division.
F) Your desired Division number (Please check the other division on our division page to make sure your number is unique)

If all criteria is met, an admin will create your division. The division leader must then fill in all geographic data so that the division will appear on the groups page. Once that is done, write the admins and they will create a discussion thread in the Divsions section of the forums.

9) How do I create a Special Operations division?

Should you wish to create a Special Operations division based on a specific, collective talent we encourage you to do so. Special Operations Divisions are based on a specific ability (i.e.; cooking, wrestling, clowning) and are focused on utilizing this unique ability toward the actualization of a Utopian Playland!

If there is not already a special operations division that covers your idea (please check thoroughly), then you can send your request via the contact page with the following information:

A) A Leader. You must be a member in good standing with us, having an active profile and posts.
B) Links to 3 other members’ profiles to start it with. They must also be proven active.
C) All parties must be registered members of Toy Soldiers Unite for at least one month prior to division creation.
D) The title of your Special Operations Division.
E) A logo or a rough sketch of one that will become your Special Op’s logo if approved.
F) An outline of how your division will further the quest for the Utopian Playland with its chosen focus/skill.

Please note that the creation of Special Ops is a more subjective process than the creation of divisions. Admins carefully consider usefulness, redundancy, appropriateness, and other factors when a Special Operations division is proposed. Ultimately, it is to their discretion as to whether or not the division is created. On occasion, some Special Ops may be considered more appropriate as a Special Interest Division.

10)How do I organize an invasion?

That’s great because anybody can organize an invasion! If you have an invasion idea, the first step is to check the Missions and Upcoming Invasions sections of the forums to see if your event idea already exists. If it doesn’t, contact the leader of the division in which or invasion idea is located to see if he or she already has something in the works. If no one is working on it yet, the next step is to spearhead the event yourself! Post a detailed thread in the Missions area if it is a general mission idea (no specific location or date) or post it in Upcoming Invasions if your event has a location and date. Don’t forget to include the place, time, date and area of meet-up as well as the TSU profile of the Soldier/s in charge of organizing it. Once your invasion is over, make sure to send in a report (with photos if you have). Your event may end up in TSU News!

11) What’s a mission report?
A mission report is a description of your creative support for The Army of Toy Soldiers including official missions, original missions, invasions, tactical playtime, and any other exciting events carried out in the name of TSU. If you have completed any such activities and would like to inform the administrators of Toy Soldiers Unite of your work, simply go to the Submit Field Report section under the Account tab in the navigation bar. That admins do read the reports, and many are often written about in the TSU News, so the more detail the better! Please include links to publicly accessible photos, videos, forums, and other corresponding event information when applicable.
Your report will be stored on file. Many a mission report has resulted in Soldiers being featured as “Soldier of the week” and even the awarding of a YellowJacket badge.

12) Can I customize my uniform?
Duplication of the displayed uniform is greatly encouraged as unity of style breeds unity of focus. As Dr. Steel has said, “It is only with a singular, focused vision that we shall overcome”.

However, we also encourage the creativity and talents of the individual. To this end, if you are interested in customizing your uniform be sure to follow these few pointers:

1. Utilize official patches and pins. While you are free to add your own accessories, professional or handmade, please note that producing the official Dr. Steel-designed patches and pins on your own is a violation of copyright.
2. TSU uses 6 primary colors for uniforms: black, military brown, red, white, yellow, and a sand/khaki tone. Please stay within the color schemes of your title:
a. Toy Soldiers: yellow, black.
b. Toy Scouts: yellow, black, military brown, and sand/khaki color.
c. Nurses: white and red, yellow and black, or military brown.
d. For all, color scheme accents may be added at your discretion, but please be tasteful.
3. Keep it “clean.” When you include an element in your uniform, ask yourself: should this be associated with the family-friendly Army of Toy Soldiers?

13) What is my rank in the army? How do I get a title?
Though there are no ranks in The Army of Toy Soldiers. Many of the members have created nicknames using military terms, but some only add such titles when they feel they have “earned” them. However, there is no universal ranking system. Creativity and personal style is always encouraged in The Army of Toy Soldiers, so feel free to create your own name to reflect your individuality. The only title you cannot award yourself is Yellow Jacket.

14) How do you become a Yellow Jacket?
A Yellow Jacket is a Toy Soldier who has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the cause. They are one who has utilized ingenuity, drive, vision, and creativity to do something no one else has in furtherance of the Utopian Playland. More information on Yellow Jackets coming soon.

15)Where can I find/download lyrics to the songs?
Lyrics to Dr. Steel’s discography and the ability to download the songs can be found right here on ToySoldiersUnite.com! Just go to the Dr. Steel tab in the navigation bar and click Music. When you select an album, you will find options for both domestic (U.S.) and international purchases as well as a link to lyrics. Enjoy the lyrical brainwashing!

16)What should I do if am I having trouble with another soldier?
If you are having issues with a fellow soldier, step one is not to fight about it on the forums. Instead, please send a detailed report of the abuse via theContact Page for an admin to review the matter. Include links to the corresponding forum, a copy of the harassing message, or whatever evidence of the abuse you may have, as well as the name or link to the offenders profile. Please note that reports of abuse are strictly confidential and your name will not be released in an accusatory manor. If it is a minor matter within a singular division, please consider reporting it to your division leader first as typical disputes are often easily resolved by division leaders.

17)I have a question related to the Toy Soldiers Unite chat room.

18)I really want to get active in TSU, but it all seems so overwhelming! What should I do?

19)Where can I find a copy of the TSU rules and regulations?
Excellent question! While we thrive on creativity, we do have some guidelines and boundaries established to maintain an appropriate amount of order within the organization. For a copy of these rules, please see TSU Rules, Regulations and FAQs stickied (permanently kept) at the top of the Announcements section of the forums.

20)What should I do if I don’t see an answer to my question here?
There are three easy options if you don’t see your question here! Option 1 is to check the forums. You will see a few forums stickied (permanently kept) at the top of each forum section. These are often where important rules and information are kept. You can also use the search function to find key words. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, option 2 is to post your question in the appropriate forum section. Our soldiers are friendly and helpful, so you will likely get a response from a good dozen folks by week’s end! If your question is personal or you are unable to find what you are looking for, option 3 is to submit your question to the Contact Page
